In a recent post, we compared traditional author royalty rates to Amazon's royalties for eBooks. However, that is far from being the only setback that comes with a traditional publishing deal. In addition to alarmingly low royalty rates for authors, the selection process for accepting work from writers is incredibly flawed and ridiculous as well, in my opinion.

Branding Tip for Self-Published Authors: Use GoodReads Quotes!

Go to the product page for your Kindle eBook and scroll down until you see a section with the heading "Popular Highlights." The quotes below the heading are parts from your book that have been highlighted by your readers on their Kindle devices. As far as I know, more than one highlight qualifies as popular.
